Energy-saving measures for explosion-proof motors

How can explosion-proof motors reduce energy consumption, save electricity, and improve efficiency in production? Several aspects should be considered comprehensively.

Rational selection of motor types. The YBX4 series motor is a nationally unified design series and is currently one of the most advanced explosion-proof three-phase asynchronous motors in China. Its advantages include high efficiency, energy saving, and good starting performance. When purchasing new motors, energy-efficient brands should be considered first, followed by other performance indicators as needed, to save electricity.

Rational selection of the rated capacity of the motor. The national regulations for explosion-proof motors in three operating areas are as follows: a load rate between 70% and 100% is the economic operating area; a load rate between 40% and 70% is the general operating area; and a load rate below 40% is the uneconomical operating area. If the motor capacity is selected to be too large, although it can ensure the normal operation of the equipment, it will not only increase investment but also have very low efficiency and power factor, resulting in waste of electricity. Therefore, considering both the needs of equipment operation and the improvement of efficiency as much as possible, a general load rate of 60% to 100% is more ideal.

Energy-saving renovation of old explosion-proof motors: (1) Replacing the motor's external fan with an energy-saving type. For different motor models, corresponding energy-saving fan products are available, mainly used for single-direction operation of 2-pole and 4-pole motors. This can improve efficiency by 1.35% to 2.55%. (2) Using new insulating materials to increase the conductor cross-sectional area. For high-voltage motors with asphalt mica tape dipped in glue insulation, epoxy glass powder mica tape insulation can be used during stator coil overhaul to achieve energy-saving purposes.

Variable frequency speed regulation of the motor. Using other continuous speed regulation methods, such as voltage regulators, pole-changing motors, electromagnetic coupling speed regulators, and variable frequency speed regulation devices.

Increasing the motor voltage. When the asynchronous motor is lightly loaded, reducing its external supply voltage can achieve energy saving.

Improving the power factor. Connecting an appropriate amount of capacitance in parallel at the output end of the asynchronous motor for reactive power compensation can improve the power factor, reduce reactive power losses, and effectively save electricity.
